When getting to know someone, one of my reserve questions is “what’s your favorite ice cream?”
Like all introductory questions it is loaded one. It says a lot about your personality, tastes and interests.
I love to fool people into thinking I am interesting, exotic and worldly. But I am also crazy busy so I love making odd flavored ice cream combinations which are relatively quick, easy and require just a couple of ingredients.
Make it salty, make it sweet, make it spicy. It will rock the socks off your dinner guests and is so easy to do. If you want to make the base of your ice cream from scratch, there is nothing better. However, if you are looking for a shortcut that is still guaranteed to impress look no further.
Start with 1 1/2 quarts ice cream and allow to soften at room temperature for 10 minutes, add your fun flavors to taste, mix well and stick it back in the freezer! Then when you tell your guests that you made it, it will be mostly true!
At The Spice and Tea Shoppe, the possibilities are endless:
Persian Saffron, Rose and Pistachio Ice Cream (click link for recipe)
Jalapeño Sea Salt and chocolate brownie pieces in chocolate ice cream
Authentic Chai Masala in vanilla or pistachio ice cream
Almond Extract and ground French Lavender
Rosemary and honey
Habanero Chile Crushed and blackberry compote in vanilla ice cream
Bourbon and Hickory Smoked Sea Salt
After leaving your dinner parties, your friends will be staggeringly fascinating as they proudly proclaim “my favorite ice cream is ghost chili and blueberry!”
