Caffeine Content and Absorption in Tea vs. Coffee
Caffeine levels consumed in an 8 oz. cup of loose-leaf tea are 1/4 to 1/3 of the amount in a same size cup of regular drip coffee. And the specific types of caffeine’s in coffee metabolize very quickly in the body; causing a rapid spike in energy followed by a heavy crash as it burns off. Teas, (specifically from camellia sinensis, not herbals, which do not contain the tea plant) contain low to moderate amounts of caffeine and are buffered by theanine which metabolizes the caffeine much slower and evenly in the body, resulting in a longer, sustained energy level and no crash as it leaves the system.
