Did you know that tea is not meant to be put in bags? Especially the traditional, and extremely common, flat tea bags (or even small tea balls)?
Full leaf (or loose leaf) teas need room to expand during steeping for full-bodied flavor. Due to the size constraints of teabags, only the lowest, and therefore smallest, tea leaves are included. In fact, some may be right to argue that there aren’t any leaves in bags because most bags are just the "dust and fannings" (the lowest grade of tea) from broken tea leaves.
Loose leaf is vastly superior to broken leaf, dust and fannings. Broken leaves have already lost much of their essential oils and aroma and, therefore, their taste. When steeped, they release more tannins than loose leaf tea, resulting in bitter astringent cups.
Loose leaf teas provide you with more flavor, aroma, antioxidants, and pleasure than the tiny leaf bits and stale tea dust in most mass-produced tea bags. Typical tea bags are produced on an industrial scale and may sit in a warehouse or on a shelf for a long time before you ever get them.
By comparison, our loose leaf teas are carefully selected and hand-crafted by tea masters. We then micro-blend and package only small batches assuring you get the best loose leaf tea from each harvest.
At The Spice & Tea Shoppe we never compromise on quality and strive to offer you only the best loose leaf tea because we feel you deserve it.
