Arrowroot is a gluten-free starch made from the root of an herb. It is a thickener that works like corn starch and the white powder is flavorless and is used as a thickening agent for sauces, fruit pie fillings and glazes and puddings. Arrowroot can be a substitute for flour or starch. Use two teaspoons in place of one tablespoon of cornstarch. One teaspoon of arrowroot can be used for one tablespoon of flour. Arrowroot mixtures thicken at a lower temperature than mixtures made with flour or cornstarch.

    I love that I can find a thickening agent that is not flour or cornstarch! They always have what I need.
