Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Description

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons Mulling Spice Blend tied in cheesecloth or placed in muslin bag
1 cup pure maple syrup or 1 cup dark brown sugar
2 quarts (1/2 gallon) Unfiltered Apple Cider (not juice)
Juice from ½ Lemon
1 cup dark rum or brandy (optional)

Directions:

Pour apple cider into a large saucepan, add maple syrup or brown sugar and stir until dissolved, then add Mulling Spice Blend and bring almost to a boil.

Add lemon juice.

Reduce the heat to its lowest setting and simmer for 30 minutes, or alternatively you may transfer hot cider to crock pot and simmer on low through the day. 

Instant Pot - Place all ingredients in Instant Pot, stir well until sugar dissolves and set for 20 minutes high pressure. Natural or quick release as you prefer.

If adding rum do so at very end or simply add ½ ounce to cup before ladling in hot cider for those who prefer a bit of kick in their drink.

Sliced apples steeped in the cider and floating on top make a festive garnishment along with cinnamon sticks and a delicious cinnamon sugar rimmer.
