Mulled German Wine “Gluhwein”

3 Tablespoons Mulling Spice Blend tied in cheesecloth or 1 Mulled Cider & Wine Kit
1 medium lemon sliced
1 medium orange sliced
1 medium red apple sliced into rings
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups water
2 (750-milliliter) bottles dry red wine
1 cup brandy
Cinnamon sticks for garnish


Place the Mulling Spice Blend bundle in the saucepan, add the sugar and water and place the pan over med-high heat bringing to a simmer stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is reduced by about one-third, about 20 minutes.

Add the red wine and brandy, sliced lemon, orange and apple, stir to combine, and bring just to a simmer (don’t let it boil). Remove from the heat and remove and discard the spice bundle, lemon slices and orange slices before serving but leave apple for a beautiful presentation. Ladle into cups and garnish with cinnamon sticks. Alternately the recipe can be prepared in a crockpot set to low and enjoyed throughout the day.
